What do you need right now?

Last time, I wrote about control.

About how planning, anticipating, and trying to stay one step ahead can sometimes be our way of searching for safety.

And there’s another question I’ve been sitting with since then:

What do I actually need right now?

It sounds like such a simple question.

But I’m realizing it isn’t always easy to answer.

I’ve spent much of my life becoming very good at noticing what needs attention.

As a physician, that was literally my job.

As a mom, there is almost always someone or something asking for my attention.

As a coach, business owner, friend, partner, and woman navigating life, there is always something I could be thinking about, planning for, responding to, or taking care of.

And it can become incredibly easy to direct our attention outward.

What does my child need?
What needs to happen today?
Who am I forgetting to respond to?
What do I need to prepare for?
What needs to be handled next?

Meanwhile, our bodies are communicating with us too.

I’m tired.
I’m tense.
I need movement.
I need rest.
I need connection.
I need some space.

But are we listening?

My own body has given me plenty of opportunities to practice this lately.

And I’ve noticed my tendency to want to jump immediately from noticing something to figuring out what I should do about it.

I’m practicing something different.

Creating a little space between the noticing and the doing.

Sometimes what I need is movement.
Sometimes it’s lying down.
Sometimes it’s getting outside.
Sometimes it’s talking to someone.
Sometimes it’s taking a few slow breaths.
And sometimes I don’t know yet.

I’m learning that I don’t always have to.

Maybe the practice is simply creating enough space to listen before deciding what comes next.

And perhaps this is one of the ways we begin coming home to ourselves.

This is exactly what we’re exploring in The Village this week. 💖

On Saturday, September 12th, I’m welcoming my friend Kris Dupuis, founder of Elemental You Living, Wayfinder Life Coach, and Satya Yoga teacher, for:

Coming Home to Yourself: Creating Space to Be, Listen, and Reconnect with What’s True for You

Kris and I will talk about how easily women can become caught up in doing, managing, caring, solving, and responding to what everyone and everything around us needs.

Then she’ll guide us through a gentle yoga practice incorporating movement, breath, stillness, and reflection.

There is no perfect pose and nowhere you need to get to. No previous yoga experience is necessary.

Just come as you are. 💖

This gathering is especially meaningful to me because it marks one full year of The Village and the completion of our first season. 🎉

For the past year, we’ve explored so many different pathways back to ourselves through conversations and experiences around self-worth, nourishment, our nervous systems, sound, movement, Human Design, and more.

Different doorways.

But the same intention underneath them:

Creating space to reconnect with ourselves.

Because connection begins within.

Whether you’ve been with us throughout this first year or this will be your very first Village, I’d love to have you there.

Warmly,

P.S. Before you move on to whatever is next in your day, try asking yourself one question:

What do I need right now?

You don’t have to immediately do anything about the answer.

Just see what you notice.

Maybe I wasn’t looking for control after all…
